Occupational Therapy Practice

Family consultation sessions include an interview with the family, observation of the child and goal setting.

Screenings include consultation with the family and a review of previous professional reports for a record review. A school visit for observation of the child and conference with the staff is offered. A home visit for observation is available. The results of the screening are provided in a report with recommendations that may include the need for an evaluation.

Evaluations include consultation with the family and a record review. Specific testing is administered depending on the strengths and challenges of the child. Consultation with other professionals for information gathering may be necessary. An evaluation report is provided to determine the need for individual occupational therapy sessions, treatment strategies and recommendations.

Individual therapy sessions are designed to help your child learn adaptive skills and behaviors that will help today and into adulthood. Included in these sessions are opportunities for parents to observe and participate in their child's sessions in order to embrace the successes and challenges and learn along with their child.

Social skill groups incorporate an activity-based approach through social communication, sensory-motor play, and a group project. Parents are included in the sharing at the end of each group session.
